Every year on 13 April, which is New Year in Thailand, Water Throwing Festival takes place across the country. This festival marks the end of the dry season and the beginning of the annual rains in the fifth month of the Thai lunar year. The -throwing of water has traditionally been a sign of washing away bad luck and wishing for good things. In this occasion, many Thais visit their local temples to pray and to wash their Buddha icons. This cleansing ritual is to bring luck and prosperity for the coming year. Apárt from visiting local temples, people fiock to the streets to take part in wide-ranging water flghtS. Young people with huge water guns or buckets of water run or drive through the streets and throw water at anybody they see. Because this activity may hurt or even kill other people, participants must follow the important rules. Firstly, they mustn’t throw water at old people. Secondly, they mustn’t touch people. Thirdly, they mustn’t throw water at car drivers. The festival is a Thai special tradition and also a big tourist attraction.
