Sample Answer 1.

It is reported that the police in the UK do not carry guns. I think the absence of guns is disadvantageous for the police in any nation. My opinion is based on the following reasons.

First of all, it has been a trend that violence is increasing in various parts of the world. More and more criminals, these days, carry guns and other dangerous weapons. If the police force only have pepper spray, batons and bulletproof vests for protection, it is not enough to be a deterrent. The police should have proper equipment, such as a gun, so that they would hopefully not lose their lives, and the local residents will feel safer and better protected.

However, some people think that police with guns may increase the overall violence in society, which means there will be more gun-battles. In my opinion, gun-carrying by the police should be regulated to ensure that police do not hurt citizens, except criminals. Firstly, the police should conceal weapons so as not to terrify ordinary people, for no one would like the feeling of seeing a police officer patrolling around with a big gun. Secondly, the police station should strictly regulate the usage of guns, and the police Who are negligent should be severely penalized. In this case, only in the most crucial circumstance will the police be allowed to use guns to protect themselves and citizens.

If all police are very well trained in using guns, citizens will not worry about violence increasing. In addition, the government should also have rigid gun control regulations for the police. For example, the police will not be issued excessive bullets; when they resign or retire, they have to turn their guns back in; the police only carry guns when they are on duty and so on.

All in all, regulated gun-carrying by the police is necessary, which will be protective for themselves and other people as well. Furthermore, it will improve the overall security of society.

Sample Answer 2.

People in the UK, even the police, are not allowed to carry guns. Some people argue that ít may trigger off insecurity in city dwellers, whereas others assert that it can eliminate violence in society. Hereby, I would like to discuss both of these two perspectives in the following paragraphs.

Some people believe that the absence of guns is disadvantageous in many aspects in any nation. It has been a trend that violence is increasing in various parts of the world. More and more criminals, these days, carry guns and other dangerous weapons. If the police only have pepper spray, batons and bulletproof vests for protection, it is not enough to be a deterrent. If the police have proper equipment, such as a gun, they will hopefully not lose their lives, and the local residents will feel safer and better protected.

Others. however, hold the opinion that the police should not be allowed to carry guns. There have been plenty of cases where some robbers or thieves who committed crimes but did not deserve death were shot down by police. Furthermore, some unqualified and irresponsible policemen may hurt some innocent citizens, or even kill them when pursuing some culprits. Additionally, guns issued to the police may be lost, which will set off an even worse situation. And thus, it will reduce the overall violence in our society if the police are not allowed to carry guns.

In conclusion, both sides of such a practice have their respective reasons and justifications. As people always expect a peaceful life, l personally agree with the latter view. If guns and other dangerous weapons are totally restricted in the modern world, violence will reduce. Hence, it is my sincere wish that governments of other countries would follow the example of the UK to avoid violence globally.
