If you ever see a tall and skinny boy with a mole on his chin, you will know that it’s me. My name is Phong and I will be twelve on the hrst of June this year. I wear thick glasses because I did not take proper care of my eye-sight when I was young.

I attend school in the morning session at Dinh Tien Hoang Primary School. My school is within a stone’s throw of my house. Every morning, I walk to school with my neighbour, Duy, who is also my class-mate. 

My hobbies are playing football and assembling model aeroplanes. I am very proud of my model airplane collection. Most of the models were given to me as presents over the years. The rest were bought with the pocket-monkeyl saved.

As the eldest child in the family, I always try to set a good example for my twin sisters. My parents often praise me for being an obedient boy. When I grow up, I want to be a doctor. I want to be able to cure patients. In order to fulfill my ambition,I must study hard to go to university.

In South Vietnam, there are two main seasons. There are the rainy season and the dry season.

The rainy season, which is also called the wet season, usually starts in May or June and ends in December. The dry season or the sunny one runs from December to May. Each season has its own characteristics which may be interesting to different people.

As far as I am concerned. I dislike the rainy season because of the following reasons: 

During this season there are often storms and floods caused by continuous and heavy rains, damaging houses, roads, bridges, and crops. Even though I always wear a raincoat, my clothes are still ruined.

 And the street leading to my school is always so flooded after any heavy rain that I find going to school a great problem. Apart from that, the sewers in most parts of the city are still in bad condition, causing pollution everywhere. This makes everyone feel very uncomfortable and contributes to illness.

As I looked at the photographs taken during my childhood days, it seemed only yesterday that I was a little child.

My childhood was a pleasant one. Being the only child in 1 was doted on. As a result, I was a rather mischievous boy. I liked snacks like chocolates, ice-cream and candies, but I hated proper meals. I can recall how my granny had to run after me, one hand holding a bowl of porridge and the other holding a spoon. I would run faster, shouting noisily as I played with my toy aeroplane. What a little brat I must have been!

I also remember the time when I mistook the laundry soap for a bar of chocolate and wanted to munch it. Luckily, my granny saw it before I took the first bite. 

Since I have no brothers or sisters, I would play with my neighbours at times. There was a boy, Thien, Whom I looked uP to. He was very good at playing marbles and he used to share the marbles he won with me.

Everyone sat up expectantly. It was a maths period and all of us waited eagerly for our maths teacher, Mrs. Hanh, to come into the class. She is very popular among us. In fact, she is my favourite teacher.

Mrs. Hanh has short curly hair and wears thick glasses which make her look stern. However, she is actually very approachable and is always ready to lend an ear to our problems. She is motherly and cares very much for us. I remember once when I fell and hurt my knee, Mrs. Hanh helped me to stop the bleeding and took me to the clinic. I was very grateful to her.

I used to dislike maths when I was younger because I found it far too complicated. Mrs. Hanh always makes maths lessons interesting and easy to understand. She is very patient in explaining maths problems to us and always makes sure everyone understands. Under her guidance, my maths has improved by leaps and bounds.

I have grown to love maths and I always score high marks in my maths tests now and it’s all because of my favourite teacher.

When the bell rang, everyone jumped for joy. The school holidays which would last one month have just begun.

That night, my whole family caught the flight to Da Lat. We spent an interesting week at the beautiful place, doing some sightseeing, and enjoying the delights of the local dishes.

Back in the city, my piano lesson resumed. My Grade IV piano examination was scheduled for the last day of the school holidays. Therefore, I spent two hours every morning practising the piano.

Of course, I spent time doing other things as well. I visited my grandparents, bringing with me cakes that my mother had specially baked for them. In addition, Daddy lined up a series of programs for my brother and me like picnics, fishing trips and shopping.

It was usually when we were having fun that we felt time passed quickly. The last week of my holidays was mostly spent on my studies and my piano practices.

I passed my piano examination. It was certainly a good way to welcome school. I wished my school holidays were longer, 1 was also eager to see the familiar faces of my friends and teachers in school again.

Ngày xưa, người ta dùng nhiều thời gian ở nhà vào cuối tuần. Sau đó, những phát minh mới đã thay đổi các ngày nghỉ cuối tuần. 

 Người ta sử dụng xe điện để đi trong các thành phố. Vào những ngày cuối tuần, họ di xe điện đến các công viên giải trí. Thanh niên lại thích tàu lượn trên không và vòng đu quay. 

 Những phim đầu tiên chỉ kéo dài một phút. Tuy nhiên, chẳng bao lâu, phim lại dài hơn. Khoảng những năm 1920, các rạp hát bản ra hàng triệu vé mỗi tuần! Vào năm 1927, cuối cùng phim mới có âm thanh. Đôi khi, người ta lại ở nhà để thay đổi và lắng nghe một phát minh mới khác radiô. 

«› Người dân ở các thành phố làm việc suốt tuần ở trong nhà, do đó họ muốn đi ra ngoài vào cuối tuấn. Cười xe đạp trở thành một sinh hoạt được nhiều người ưa thích.

With more time, money, and inventions, peop(e have many more choices. 

 They can visit huge "theme parks” like Disney World and/ride modern roller coasters that go higher and faster than ever before. 

 They can choose from lots of different movies at a multiplex (a building with many movie theaters) or watch a video at home. 

 Many people jog, bicycle, work out at the gym, or play sports. Others turn on their TV and watch sports.

Có nhiều thì giờ, tiên bạc và phát minh hơn, người ta có nhiêu sự lựa chọn hơn. 

Họ có thể tham quan “các công nên giẳi trí, có các trò vui dựa trên một tn tưởng” như Thế Giới Disney và ngổn trên những xe tàu lượng hiện đại chạy nhanh hơn, leo cáo hơn bao giờ. 

Họ có thể chọn lựa nhiều rạp hát khác nhau tại một khu đa thành phần (là một tòa nhà với nhiều rạp chiếu bóng) hay xem viđêo ở nhà. 

Nhiều người chạy bộ, đạp xe, tập thể dục ở ngoài trời hay chơi các môn thể thao. Những người khác bật TV lên và  xem thể thao.
